Fuerza Bruta
Fuerza Bruta widens eyes, quickens pulses, and cranes necks as it treats audiences of all ages to a dance party whose dance floor is rarely subject to gravity. Set to a soundtrack that ebbs and flows from thumping club tunes to calm New World music, this kaleidoscopic show from the creators of De La Guarda demolishes the fourth wall, extending the stage over audience members' heads as suspended performers seem to walk on air or tumble up a Technicolor wall of cloth. At one point, the air fills with water and the dancers swim, cavort, and press palms with audience members through the clear Mylar tarp suspending the water. Colorful, flashing lights illuminate a host of other marvels during the 70-minute phantasmagoria, including a man on a treadmill who must leap through oncoming rooms and occasionally bolt headfirst through walls.

Attendees are encouraged to lose themselves in dance, both by the lack of seats and the abundance of carelessly placed mousetraps. A group photo is taken at each performance and shared the following day on the Fuerza Bruta Facebook page.

The Scouting Report
In a thrilling May 7 matchup, the Mets and the Chicago White Sox went into extra innings tied at zero runs. It was, by any account, a pitching duel, and in the end the Mets' staff emerged victorious, combining for 24 strikeouts in the 1–0 contest. Such brilliant pitching performances—especially from the young starters—have been a common theme for the Mets through the first two months of the 2013 season, and it's a trend the Mets hope to continue in the coming weeks—especially during the heated Subway Series against the Yankees, which has been a summer tradition since interleague play began in 1997.

Sag Harbor, New York: Quaint Seaside Town in the Hamptons
About 75 to 100 miles east of Manhattan, on the South Fork of Long Island, lies a string of sophisticated beach towns collectively known as the Hamptons. The area includes the towns of Southampton and East Hampton, plus a series of smaller, picturesque villages and hamlets (not all necessarily ending with "hampton"). During the summertime, the area, which is known for its peaceful beaches and a glamorous social scene, regularly draws a privileged crowd. In cooler months, the population shrinks, and it’s relatively quiet here; spend days beachcombing, shopping for farm-fresh produce, or strolling past the giant mansions that line the seaside.
Sag Harbor, one of the northernmost towns in the Hamptons, is quaint and unpretentious. Founded in 1707, Sag Harbor has long been an important American transportation hub; in 1789, President George Washington approved it as the official port of entry to the U.S. Over the next century, it became known as the whaling port of the northeast. You can learn more about the village’s history at the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum. After a museum visit, take a stroll down Main Street to grab a bite to eat or shop for gifts and apparel.
Because they’re clustered together, it’s easy to visit other towns in the Hamptons during your stay. Westhampton Beach is known for its busy Main Street, populated by boutiques, cafes, and Zagat-rated restaurants, and Frommer’s calls the village’s beaches “some of the best on Long Island.†In neighboring Eastport, antique stores abound, and in Southampton, you’ll find several historic estates and chic shops. Trendy East Hampton is home to top-tier restaurants and celebrity mansions, including those of Jerry Seinfeld and Billy Joel.

Italian Vacation with Stops in Rome and the Amalfi Coast
This trip includes:
- Round-trip airfare from New York (JFK)
- Three-night stay at the Mecenate Palace hotel or similar hotel in Rome
- Three-night stay at the Hotel Vesuvio or similar hotel in Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast
- Arrival transfer to hotel and coach transfer to/from Sorrento
- Daily breakfast
- Hop-on, hop-off tour of Rome
- Panoramic tour of Naples
- Guided visit of Pompeii
On this eight-day Italy vacation, you’ll split your time between Rome and the Amalfi Coast, a chic resort region located on Southern Italy’s Mediterranean Coast. The package includes hotel accommodations and daily breakfast. View the itinerary here.
We’ve included some of our favorite highlights below.
Three Nights in Rome
Accommodations: The Mecenate Palace hotel features a rooftop garden restaurant, and guest room with panoramic views.
Italy’s “Eternal City†dates back nearly 3,000 years. Its early inhabitants left behind a wealth of architectural masterpieces: the Colosseum, built in 72 A.D. for gladiator contests and animal fights, is an elliptical amphitheater that could fit 55,000 Roman countrymen. Today, you can tour its dilapidated interior and see its labyrinth of masonry walls and chambers. The hop-on, hop-off tour allows you to visit Termini, Piazza Venezia, Colosseo, Circo Massimo, Monte Savello, San Pietro, Castel St. Angelo, Arapacis, Tritone and Barberini.
From here, the city’s crowded cobblestone paths lead to attractions including the magnificent Trevi Fountain. It’s Rome’s largest Baroque fountain, festooned with Neptune, Tritons, seahorses, and several waterfalls. According to legend, those who throw a coin in the water will return to Rome one day.
The city also has some world-class art. At the Vatican Museums in Saint Peter’s Square, you can see Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, home to his most famous frescoes The Last Judgment and The Creation of Adam, and sculptures by legendary artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Before you leave, indulge in some local Roman traditions: feast on kosher artichokes in the Jewish Ghetto, drink grappa in a secluded alley side cafe, and watch the sun set from the Pincio Terrace located behind the Villa Borghese.
Three Nights in the Amalfi Coast
Accommodations: The Hotel Vesuvio—in the coastal town of Sorrento—has three restaurants including a poolside oasis.
Colorful villas cling to sheer cliffs and cobblestone streets give way to black pebble beaches along the Amalfi Coast, located in Southern Italy where the Mediterranean Sea meets mountains. You’ll stay in Sorrento, a bustling port town on the Bay of Naples. The lemon trees here bear fruit that can grow to the size of footballs, and one of the most popular Sorrento exports is its Limoncello, a lemon-based liqueur. It’s traditionally served as an after-dinner drink, but local shops start handing out samples of it as soon as their doors open.
About 20 minutes east of Sorrento is Positano, a popular honeymoon destination that occupies the most spectacular stretch of the Amalfi Coast. You can go lounging on the beach here or shopping for embroidered linen clothing. These coastal towns are well-positioned for a number of exciting day trips as well: charter boats can take you out to the jet-setting island of Capri, with a stop at the famed Blue Grotto along the way. And about 17 miles north, in the volcanic ruins of Pompeii, you can see paints still sitting in their pots beside unfinished frescoes.

The Issue: Veterans Facing Mental and Economic Hardship
About 1.4 million veterans are considered at risk for homelessness, due to lack of support networks, poverty, and otherwise dismal living conditions, according to data cited by the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. This problem is compounded by the fact that unemployment for post-9/11 veterans remains at 10.9%, well above the national average. Additionally, 44% of returning veterans have reported difficulties ranging from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to depression, making it difficult to hold down a job and support their families.
The Campaign: Building Gardens to Support Veterans
All donations to this Grassroots campaign will be used by Seeds of Hope to build garden beds at Fisher House locations. Each bed requires six 8-foot-long wood planks ($100), 12 bags of soil ($100), six seed packets ($20), weed barriers ($10), plus nails, brackets, and screws ($18). For every $250 raised, Seeds of Hope can purchase all the materials needed to build one garden bed. Each Seeds of Hope garden typically contains two beds.
At Fisher Houses across the country, which are generally located near VA hospitals, Seeds of Hope partners Girl Scouts with veterans and their families. Together, they plant, maintain, and harvest crops at their homemade gardens, providing 50 pounds of produce each year for the veterans and the families and an educational experience for the girls. Gardening also provides a soothing pastime for veterans with PTSD. Seeds of Hope ultimately hopes to build gardens in 10 different states by the end of this year.

Kenneth Cole
"On his first day in business, Kenneth Cole parked a 40-foot trailer, director, camera, and troop of actresses in Midtown Manhattan, just across the street from the Hilton. Somebody had painted “Kenneth Cole Productions, Inc.†on the side of the trailer. Nobody had loaded film into the camera. The entire movie was a ruse—a way for the young designer to obtain a coveted parking permit and set up his mobile shoe store in the heart of New York. It worked: in less than three days, he sold 40,000 pairs of shoes.
More than two decades later, Kenneth Cole has expanded his line beyond high-quality, high-fashion shoes to include trendy apparel, handbags, and watches for men and women around the world. He's known for updating classic looks with modern details, such as adding a wedge heel to a pair of pointed-toe boots or making sure that a watch can tell the current time on Jupiter.

Its convenient bandwidth management automatically adjusts the data usage updates when connected to 3G networks to fend off overage fees.
The Norton Online Backup software carves out a space online to safely store irreplaceable digital photos, videos, and important financial information about your neighbors. The professionally managed data centers house and protect items with government-grade encryption but still let you transfer files from one computer to another, even if they run on different platforms. Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi performing "Runaway" live in 2013
With more than 125 million records sold, more than 2,700 concerts performed, and a million faces seen and rocked, Bon Jovi has carved out a New Jersey-size place in the rock pantheon. The band's current trek into stadiums and arenas around the globe solidifies its status as the world's most pleasing natural phenomenon after pizza volcanoes. Bona fide Bon Jovi fans can hope to hear songs from the band's most recent chart-topping album, What About Now, along with classic smash hits such as "Livin' on a Prayer," "You Give Love a Bad Name," and "It's My Life." Remind the city that it was built upon subterranean deposits of liquid rock 'n' roll with a night of rollicking, riffing, and sentimental sing-alongs.

Luxurious Beach Hotel on Great South Bay
Ferries from New York City and Long Island regularly cruise along Great South Bay toward Ocean Beach, New York, to drop off tourists at Fire Island. You can watch them come in right from The Palms Hotel Fire Island. Just pull up a deck chair along the hotel’s private beach, which overlooks the calm waters of the bay. The private bay beach is located right behind the property—feel free to rent a large sun umbrella from the hotel and sit in the shade, or kick back on one of many beach beds.
Each of The Palms’ king or full rooms has a cool-and-dreamy feel to it; there are gauzy curtains draping the windows and white duvets covering the pillow-top beds. A private bathroom is decked out in italian ceramic and luxurious L’Occitane bath products. After settling in, you can borrow one of the hotel’s hand wagons and walk from the hotel to one of the nearby groceries.
Ocean Beach, New York: Car-Free City with Clean Beaches and Wild Nightlife
Ocean Beach is situated right in the middle of Fire Island, a long, thin stretch of land off the southern shores of Long Island. Clean beaches and quaint, cottage-lined streets characterize Ocean Beach, which has been a popular East Coast vacation spot for nearly a century. Cars are banned all over Fire Island, lending an old-fashioned air to its villages. The island also has long been a haven for LGBTQ vacationers.
Fire Island Lighthouse is worth a visit for a great view and a nice history lesson. Climb the 192 winding steps up to the top to get a panoramic view of the island, and then head back down to check out the museum housed in the old keeper’s quarters.
When not lounging at the beach, many tourists make a daytrip to the whimsical Sunken Forest, a wooded environment nestled into a large sand dune; from the outside, it looks like a forest that sits below sea level.
